Medical Home
What is a medical home?
Our responsibility as your primary care provider is to provide regular
well child visits and discuss what to expect for your child's development and growth. We try to provide appointments for
sick visits in a timely manner, ideally the same day.
We are available by phone 24 hours a day 7 days a week to try to help you decide if your child needs to be seen urgently or if it can wait until we see them in the office. If there's a problem outside of our scope of practice, we will refer your child to other pediatric specialists and help coordinate that care. Given that medicine has become so specialized, we try to serve as the central hub of your care.
Family's Responsibilities in the Medical Home
- Schedule regular Well Child visits so we can monitor your child's growth and development
- Reach out to us if you have new concerns in between your child's visits
- Follow through with regularly scheduled follow up appointments
- Let us know if you have been seen by outside providers so we can keep a complete medical record of your child's illnesses and medications

Practice News

August 24, 2026
Starting January 1, 2027, California will require children ages 8–16 to pass a "5-step seat belt fit test" in order to ride using only a seat belt, and those who don't pass must continue using a booster seat. The 5-step test checks that the back sits flush against the seat, knees bend comfortably at the seat edge, the shoulder belt crosses the chest and shoulder (not the neck), the lap belt sits low across the thighs (not the stomach), and the child can maintain this position for the entire ride. Chestnut Pediatrics also reminds parents that many kids need a booster until about 4'9" tall and that children under 13 should ride in the back seat whenever possible.
